Lilac Rescus Team: Activate!

What do you do when your husband's co-worker says "we're getting rid of the lilacs" and you know that their fate is mulch?

You call a couple of friends with strong backs, offer them breakfast and some of the haul, and go dig them up!

We ended up with 11 separate lilacs, both purple and white, some of them over 12 feet high. I now have a hedge of mature lilacs along the back fence, something I thought was going to take YEARS! A couple of them are very nice specimen plants, and we planted them other places in the yard. I'm feeling very accomplished.

Tomorrow, if it's not raining, there's hostas to divide, and more things to plant.

I would have called you, I know you're good with a shovel and transplanting, but you have no place to put them!!

You can admire them at our house and at Gregg & Peter's.

Someday, when you have land surrounding your home, we'll scavange plants for you, too!

So jealous! The lilac that we planted the first year my parents bought this house is still mostly just a twig.

But congrats!
