Friday Afternoon Delight.

I came across my favorite cover letter ever. I stash it away in my office and it surfaces occasionally. Since I've been scaring people this week by cleaning my office "You're not leaving are you?", it came to the top again.

Key excerpts (spelling and punctuation as written):

In World War II, the Japanese captured thousands of Americans in The Philippines. Many of these soldiers died on the infamous "Bataan Death March." The conditions were cruel and harsh; only the strongest survived. That's how I feel right now--We've been captured, we're being force marched to some unknown destination, and great soldiers are falling out along the way. We're on our own "death march." This war may end with the demise of the company--another casualty of the tech collapse.

My father (a well-known consultant who believes he flew into LAX with you several years ago) told me to write to you because you could probably use a high potential, young sales guy. I know how and when to go to the CEO (like now), but I'm also comfortable selling to the decision-makers literally from the loading dock and up--engineers, purchasing, manufacturing, QA, and so forth. My new wife and I have our hearts set on buying a home; I'm afraid we'll never be able to do that with my current company, because the future looks grim. I'm looking for a great, tech-oriented company (profitable and growing) that rewards its sales people based on what they do.

It just make me smile. :)

Same letter. Same guy.

I left out the boring how he's the number 1 sales guy, outselling everyone else and surviving three acquisitions. :)

*mock horror* You're not leaving are you?

I think I know where your favourite marketing guy is now... He's got to be a marketing guy, right? Go here: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2004/06/09/notes060904.DTL
I think it's wehre he ended up... the pictures and their comments are a must see, even if slightly horrifying.

I'm afraid to look at the product website...

I'll probably see you at the movie Sunday before I fly away and I promise to come back! 8)
