A busy, delightful weekend...

The weekend started at the crack of dawn on Saturday. Donald was picking me up at 6:30 to head to Heronswood Nursery over on the Olympic Pennisula. Our plan was to catch the 7:55 Kingston Ferry, and meander over.

We were a little too efficient, and got to Edmonds just in time to board the 7:10 ferry. Followed the directions out to Heronswood to discover that they open at 9:30. Whoops. Almost two hours to kill. We drove around a while, went back towards Kingston and visited the Albertson's, and then headed back and started the line to get into the nursery.

They let us in about 9:15, and we left around 2:30. I went to a lecture/slide-show on Drought Tolerant Plants, which turned into a shopping and wish list! The nursery is obviously a commercial operation, and not really set up for casual shopping and meandering. I was a little surprised at all the weeds in the nursery pots ("we weed before we ship") and the slug damage. Apparently, it's been a bad year for them, too, and with all the plants on the ground, the slugs have taken more than their fair share.

The Gardens, though, were absolutely amazing. I could have wandered for much longer than we did, meandering on paths through the woodland gardens, exploring the huge kitchen garden. You can see a few pictures here.

After that, we went to Bainbridge Gardens, a totally delightful nursery just outside of Winslow, Washington. I found a few little treasures there, too, and totally need to take tarsyddad over there.

Just missed the 5:30 ferry back from Winslow, so we wandered downtown Winslow for a little bit--there's some cute places there--and got on the 6:30 ferry, getting back to Seattle around 7.

John was happily playing City of Heroes, so I watched the ballgame, read, painted my toenails and finally ordered pizza for dinner long about 10:30. :)

Learned that the Secret Festival is actually on Sunday, not Saturday, so I had to rearrange my plans for Sunday, since I actually could go.

Sunday, we got up, did the ritual line-sitting for the Secret Festival (a part of the Seattle International Film Festival--you buy a pass for 4 Sundays, you don't know what you're going to see, and you sign an oath not to tell what you saw), read, enjoyed coffee, chatted with other Secret Festival folks we hadn't seen in a year, and thoroughly enjoyed a film that I can't tell you about.

Ran a couple errands, then came home. John went back to City of Heroes, and I started working in the yard. I finished many more things on my list, got a little too much sun (but it'll be fine) and had a wonderful time. The yard is really starting to come together. I love it.

I wish I was out there right now, enjoying the sunshine with the kitties. Instead, I'm avoiding work, and probably ought to get back to it.

Thank goodness it's a long weekend coming up!
