It started out lazy....

....I woke up at 5:20 this morning, fast asleep on the sofa, with an infomercial blaring in front of me. Last i remember, it was a little after 10, and vinny had just gone to jail for the second time.

Got up, shuffled to bed for another hour (the alarm went off at 6:30), rolled over and went back to sleep until John's dad called at 8:45.

Now, I think it's totally sweet that his dad calls my house looking for his eldest son, but at 8:45 on a Saturday morning?

So, I got up, opened all the blinds because it wasn't pouring, like the weatherman predicted, and curled up on the sofa with a trashy novel and the food network.

John came over for brunch (no, he wasn't here when his dad called), and then headed south to his parents. (They live about an hour from here.). Since it was still sunny...but the clouds were quickly closing in, I pulled out the gardening gloves, the shovel and the bags of bulbs that have been languishing in the utility room and went to work.

The nice thing about our strange winter weather this year (I don't think it's been below freezing for more than 20 minutes) is that I can plant bulbs and peony roots in January.

I planted 11 peonies (8 in front, 3 in the back) and over a hundred bulbs (mostly tulip, but a few crocus and grape hyacinth). I found another package of full sized hyacinths that I think I'm going to put into a planter....or maybe stick down into the window box in front...now *that* would be pretty.

The Garden Show is less than a month away. Don and I have, for the last couple years, taken the first day of the show as personal holidays, and gone in for our first real blast of spring. I can't wait.

If you're in the Seattle area, I highly recommend it. It's worth the $14 bucks to be in the springtime for a few hours....

For something completely different:
I'm frustrated at not being able to manipulate my iDisk the way I want to. It's a totally cool concept, I just need to mold my mind to think more like a mac user. I'm still translating in my head from PC to Mac. It's kind of the same way I speak french--I can fumble through, but it's not always easy!

Now back to your scheduled programming.

Anyway, so it's been a lazy day, a productive day, a sunny day and now it's a rainy day. I've got another hour before leaving to meet friends to go watch our minor league hockey team. Woo hoo!

Two words.

Zamboni Race.

I just may have to become a T-Birds fan.

There's something wonderfully uncivilized about being a sports fan. Where else is it totally acceptable to scream at people about their mistakes? Or simply make fun of them because they're on the other team? Or because they fall down skating--nevermind the fact that if I had to be out there skating, I'd be on my rear, too? It was great fun!

But now, I'm sleepy. Time for bed.
