I played hooky today. My boss knew. Most of my co-workers who matter knew. It's sunny, in the upper 50s, and my garden needed me almost as much as I need it.

So, here's what I've done, on my day off:

Turned off the snooze alarm, repeatedly.
Made breakfast for John, coffee for both of us.
Rode to work with John, dropped him off.
Went to Home Depot, got 6 cubic feetx of soil.
Hauled my new (and very heavy) rose pots to the front yard.
Repotted both of the rose trees.
Realized I needed holes drilled before using *that* planter.
Went to Weight Watchers. lost 3.8 pounds
Stopped at Key Arena, got hockey tickets for Saturday night.
Came home, started split pea soup.
    Started laundry.
Cleaned out some of the back patio pots.
Planted 'Black Negligee" Chimafruga (I know I spelled that wrong!) and a bronze-leafed geranium
Raked some of the back beds, realized I needed a tarp for easier clean-up, and more yard waste bags
Turned over all the dirt, and added compost to the raised veggie beds.
Planted 'Seattle'(dark red asiatic) and 'Sweetheart' (yellow and red oriental) lilies in a pretty blue pot.
Planted 'Pink Perfection' (pink trumpet) lilies in between the roses in the main sun bed.
    Finished the split pea soup.
Realized I need some 'Casablanca' lilies to make my life complete.
Now, time to clean up and go pick up John.

*perks up* hockey?
I've been wanting to go to a hockey game for a while now. Maybe H and I could go and get seats near you for Saturday? We're going to be doing yardwork all day and a T-birds game might be a nice way to end the evening.

Hurry for hockey! It's almost the last game of the regular season....

We're in Section 104, row 17 (lower bowl, up on the corner). We'd love to see you!!!

So jealous of your mild climate! Gah!

But spring will be here soon....just not soon enough for me...

It was so nice out today. When I left to pick John up, it was cloudless and 55.

The veggie beds look so happy with their newly turned over dirt. The oregano was really happy to have its winter coat removed. On the front hill, I have daffies and early tulips in bloom, and the lilies I planted last fall starting to poke up. (which really prompted me to get these others into the ground!)

I think I'll plant peas Saturday morning. According to my grandfather, I'm late already. He always planted peas on President's Day (well, for him, Washington's birthday).

I'll look up the cultivars for you when I get home. :)

I sure wish I'd been able to be "ill" another day, but I am getting stuff done in the office.
