Spring Dreaming.

Yes, I love the snow.
Yes, I went out and played like a kid, trying to catch snowflakes on my tongue this morning.
Yes, I'm looking at seed catalogs and plant porn.

I'm ordering these to underplant my asiatic and oriental liles on my front hill.

The lilies run across the top third of the hill. The middle third of the hill is lavender and loosestrife. The bottom is heavily spring bulbs, overplanted with perennial geraniums and california poppies.

This is going to be the prettiest front hill I've ever had!

And now, it's time to be done working for the year!

oh! they're such a pretty blue!
this year i got 'honorine jobert', a japanese anemone (1 plant). she blooms in white with a green&yellow center. anemones are annoyingly easy to kill. an article i read this year on them in a magazine suggests planting gravel at the foot of the roots and planting them in a moist but well-drained site.

i got one of her sisters this past year. She spent the summer and fall in her nursery pot (bad meg) and is now planted in the bed. It's fairly rocky back there, so hopefully she'll like the drainage.

Even in the nursery pot, she was a pretty bloomer. I also got a pink japanese anemone--but I forget her name.
