In the US House this week Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas (a REPUBLICAN) introduced a bill to repeal the resolution authorizing war passed in October. That is all it does. One simple powerful statement that would make it clear congress wants back in the loop. It is called House Joint Resolution 20. Rep Jim McDermott, WA is a co-sponsor. There are 29 co-sponsors so far. For information see:
In the Senate Edward Kennedy and Robert Byrd have introduced Senate Resolution 32 that requires the administration to get specific authorization for use of force from the security council before war with Iraq.
Action Needed: Please phone the Capitol switchboard (202-224-3121) and ask your senators and representatives. Also, Senators Bill Frist and Tom Daschle, the majority and minority leaders, respectively, have great influence over whether the senate takes up Senate Resolution.
