Reaping what you sow...

...hopefully will result in a bumper crop of peppers!

This weekend, I finally got seeds started.

I reconfigured the bakers rack to be a seed starting bench (and after this, it'll be a more useful kitchen rack) and started three different kinds of peppers, snapdragons, coral bells, delpheniums, cerinthe and a lot of basil. You can never have too much basil.

I rigged up a holder so that the grow light can be suspended above the flats--now I just have to go unbox a timer, so I don't have to remember to turn the light on and off!

Seeds! Plants! Food! Flowers!

It's a wonderful thing.

Basil growing tips?
I've tried growing basil several times over the last few years, and never with the sort of wild, pesto-making success that I had envisioned. I've tried indoors, and outdoors. I've tried various spots in the garden with different soils. My basil plants always end up spindly and pathetic. So if you have any tips for successful basil growing in Seattle, I'd love to hear 'em.
